Governor Oshiomhole Spits Fire Against Niger Delta avengers.

The Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, on Wednesday condemned the activities of the Niger Delta Avengers, urging the federal government not to succumb to its blackmail.

The governor told State House correspondents after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari that the country deserved respect from all its constituents.

The governor asked political elite in the country to help in promoting and strengthening the bridge of unity in the country, particularly at this difficult time.

“I don’t think the state should submit to blackmail from any quarters. For me, I think the state‎ should be respected. I believe in Nigeria, no part can do without the other. I believe our unity is not negotiable.

“I believe the responsibility of the political elite is to strengthen the bridge of unity; to discourage preaching hatred; discourage amplifying weak points, and work to strengthen those points. I salute our armed forces for what they are doing, and the confidence they have brought back to our security,’’ the governor said.

President Buhari, Mr. Oshiomhole pointed out, deserved the support of every Nigerian, saying no part of the country can be better off without the other.

According to him, the sooner we accept this reality, the better it would be for all Nigerians, adding that the days of ethnic champions and imaginary divides would not help anyone.

The governor said the president had shown leadership and determination to keep the country going, adding “for once, we are enjoying respect ‎in world capitals, in different continents’’. Premium Times.

Opinion: Glad that the South South/Niger Delta leaders are speaking out against the Niger Delta Militants. Again any grievances should be channeled through their Governors and leaders.

Leave Abuja or Face Prosecution, AEPB Tells Beggars,Hawkers etc.

The acting director, Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), Mrs. Olanipekun Oluwatoyin, has appealed to hawkers, street traders, beggars and other group of people constituting environmental nuisance in the Federal Capital City to, as a matter of urgency, leave the city.

Oluwatoyin gave the warning yesterday during the sensitization exercise by the newly constituted management of the board.

While she said the event was to sensitize the residents on the need to co-operate with the board in order to have a clean and healthy environment, she said the authorities have zero tolerance for hawking and begging.

A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the board, Samuel R. Musa, said hawking and begging contradict Section 35 of the AEPB Act No.10 of 1997.
While calling on FCT residents to work with the board to ensure that Abuja is clean, Oluwatoyin, however, warned that whoever is arrested after this exercise would be prosecuted in the mobile court, even as he said AEPB will not relent  until the city is completely rid of environmental nuisance.

Among the areas visited by the team during the exercise were Banex Junction, Ahmadu Bello Way, Aminu Kano Crescent by Amigo, Area 1 Roundabout, Area 3 Junction, Area 8 Junction, Force Headquartres and Karmajiji Village. Source: www.dailytrust.com.ng

Opinion: Where will they go to? The government should build a home or some sort of rehabilitation centre, where they could be sent to. They are citizens of Nigeria. The government has failed to cater for the less privileged within us. Not sure the Federal Capital Authorities can be able to clean the city of beggars,  etc.

Delay In Synagogue Church Collapse Case.

Two of the engineers involved in the construction of the collapsed Synagogue Church of All Nations which claimed 116 lives and caused a furore around pastor TB Joshua will go on trial on June 3.

The trial into the collapse of the six-storey guesthouse‚ which claimed the lives of 85 South Africans on a pilgrimage‚ stalled again on Wednesday.

Charges of criminal negligence‚ manslaughter and failure to obtain a building permit are being faced by Oladele Ogundeji and Akinbela Fatiregun – the engineers who built the building - their companies and the trustees of the church which collapsed on September 12‚ 2014. They are being prosecuted by the Lagos State Government in Nigeria.

The defence team previously objected to evidence being led by the prosecution’s first witness‚ because they did not have a copy of the witness statement.

The court heard on Wednesday that the evidence had been given to the defence‚ but they needed more time to study it‚ according to This Day newspaper.

Joshua refused to give evidence at an earlier coroner’s inquest‚ despite multiple court summonses. He claimed the collapse was caused by an aircraft above the building. But a coroner attributed the tragedy to the unauthorised addition of extra floors to the building. - TMG Digital

Opinion: Nigerian judicial processes can be too slow. Justice delayed is justice denied. Our thoughts are with the relatives of those that perished on the collapsed building. No one knows when the matter would be brought to closure. Hope that Synagogue Church at least paid some sort of compensation etc.

Niger Delta Avengers Are Criminals, No Negotiation, Presidency.

Presidential Adviser on Amnesty Programme in the Niger Delta, Brig. General Paul Boroh (rtd) has slammed the the Niger Delta Avengers, the militant group sabotaging crude oil pipelines as criminals, who would not be captured in the Amnesty Programme.

Boroh who spoke to journalists in Port Harcourt in the early hours of Thursday on the sidelines of the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to flag-off the clean up of Ogoniland and the implementation of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) report said “All ex-agitators captured in the Amnesty Programme have all dissociated themselves from the criminal activities of the Niger Delta Avengers. Amnesty office has dissociated itself from them as well. We are going to work with the security agencies to fish them to face the law.”

Asked if there is possibility of negotiating with them, he said: “That is not the subject matter. We have all dissociated ourselves from them. Even the upcoming ones have no room in the Amnesty Programme. We have no room for the Niger Delta Avengers in our programme.

On the threat by the militant group to continue the bombing the national assets and talking tough to the Nigerian military, he said the Avengers are talking as if they have the wherewithal to confront the Nigerian military. “One of the strengths of criminal gangs is propaganda let them continue to propagate falsehood,” he said.

He said that contrary to the views of skeptics about the success of the Amnesty programme, the federal government has benefited tremendously from the peace in the region and the ex-agitators captured in the programme are happy. Source: PM News.

Opinion: "Whatever" is their grievances should be channelled through the legal/legitimate processes. They have succeeded in creating more hardship for innocent people of the Niger Delta.

Crisis and Conflicts in PDP.

Major opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party has not seen the last of the power tussle running within the ranks of the political party has there has been a new development which has ushered out both the former National chairman, Ali Modu-Sheriff and the chairman of the caretaker committee, Makarfi.

The tussle took a new dimension today as the party’s Board Of Trustees, BOT, chairman, Walid Jibrin announced that both Sheriff and Makarfi have been sacked and the party’s leadership henceforth has been taken over by the BOT.

Walid Jibrin said: “Today, the BOT remains the only legal body now in the whole set up and that is why we are here to play our role,”

He added: “We are not here to take over the secretariat. We are here to perform our duties as enshrined in the constitution, hoping that our problems will be resolved soon.

“We, the BOT have taken it upon ourselves to ensure we play a great role in resolving the problems.

“We have gone very far in resolving them. We have made some contacts and consultations.

“We are not here to cast blame on anybody. If it means to go to anybody to solve the problem, we will do so.”

Maintaining that the board will at all times b neutral as it strives to maintain peace and restore order to the party, Jibrin said: “The PDP has come to stay. PDP will never die,” he said. PDP will continue to rule.

“We are only on sabbatical leave and once the sabbatical is over, we are going to take over our leadership because it is our own. We are going back in 2019. But we can only do that if we cooperate and unite". www.herald.ng

Opinion: As the PDP, would say previously, whenever there is a crisis in the party, "it's a family affair". Let them sort themselves out quickly too. Nigeria needs a strong opposition party.
