Ogoni Clean Up Starts.

The clean-up of Ogoni land has commenced today, June 1 with the minister of environment, Amina Mohammed leading the federal government delegation to the devastated community. Mohammed is in Ogoni as the first step toward the official flag off of the clean-up project on June 2 by President Buhari.

Speaking on her ministry’s plans recently, Mohammed said: “This will be one of government’s major programmes for the areas contaminated and polluted by oil spillage in the region. “UNEP’s report has estimated that it could take up to 30 years for the rehabilitation of Ogoniland and its people to their full potential and it would require continuous funding of the project by development partners. “UNEP’s scientific assessment is focused on Ogoniland, a kingdom which covers close to 1,000 square kilometres in Rivers State, southern Nigeria. Ogoniland, situated in the Niger Delta region, is the third largest mangrove ecosystem in the world.” Source: Naij.com

Opinion: This is the best thing that can happen to Ogoniland, after many years of neglect. Glad we have a listening President.

Richard:The Paedophile Raped Babies,Toddlers, Pre-teens, Girls and Boys.

Huckle Tried To Cash In On Child Abuse Pics.

Richard Huckle filmed himself abusing children and shared videos and pictures with fellow paedophiles on the dark web. Huckle Made Paedophile Handbook.

By any measure, the story of prolific paedophile Richard Huckle is extraordinary and not what you might expect.

He is a middle-class, church-going, grammar school boy who used a short-course teaching certificate to gain access to vulnerable children in a foreign community where many worshipped him and still refuse to believe what he did.

He raped babies, toddlers and pre-teens, girls and boys, some of them systematically over many years. His youngest victim was six months old.

He filmed and photographed much of the abuse and shared it with fellow paedophiles on the dark web.

He posted commentaries such as this alongside the images: "It's quite amazing to have stuck with the same child lover for so many years and I hope, from the images you have seen, enjoyed watching her grow.

"It's not often in child porn you can compare the bodies of a 5yo and a 12yo that are the same girl. I'm sure I'll have plenty more sex with (her) in the future."

Investigators found 20,253 "indecent photographs" on his computer, but "indecent" hardly does justice to his camerawork.

He photographed himself raping a three-year girl and used the image to raise money on a warped crowd-funding website.

Among other images found there were 249 involving a young girl and a bottle.

In one online post, Huckle talked about cashing in on his abuse

He also wrote a paedophiles' handbook to advise other perverts on how to operate and avoid detection.

The catalogue of his crimes reads like a lifetime's work, but Huckle has only just turned 30.

His friend Scott Chapman - who was at school with him in Folkestone, Kent, and later at college - described Huckle as a loner, but not unusual.

He said: "He never seemed off or anything like that, he just seemed like a normal person - just very quiet, didn’t really talk about home or things like that."

When I showed Mr Chapman the charges his friend had admitted he was briefly speechless, then said: "I'm genuinely shocked.

"I'm shaking. It makes you feel sick.

"A couple of the other guys we were friends with have kids in this age range.

"They are a little bit older than mine but he may have even been around our friends' kids at this age."

Huckle was baptised in Ashford, Kent, at 17, and later visited Christian churches with a particular ethnic congregation in London, where he helped out at Sunday schools.

He left school with average exam results and agonised over a career before taking a gap year in Malaysia.

He spent three months on a placement at a Christian church in the same poor, ethnic community he had befriended in the UK and then returned regularly to Malaysia offering to help teach at schools and churches.

For legal reasons, we can't reveal which community or churches he was involved with.

In 2008 he took a short English teacher training course at the British Council's offices in Kuala Lumpur, where he appeared in a promotional video.

He used religion and teaching as cover for his secret life of child sex abuse, sometimes employed for private tuition in his victims' homes in an impoverished area of the city.

The British Council said it had reviewed its association with Huckle, but that vetting its graduates was the responsibility of future employers.

Sharmila Sekaran, of the child protection charity Voice of the Children, said: "Someone like Richard Huckle, who is an Englishman, he's intelligent - the community thinks he's coming to do us a favour, therefore we have to go out of our way to make him comfortable, and when children start saying things - we don't know that they raised an alarm, but if they did then very likely they would not have been believed over him."

"Generally in Malaysia we don't think and believe that things like this can happen. Perhaps it is a belief that this is more of a western problem - we don't think it can happen in our own back yard."

Huckle was exposed when Australian police stumbled across his online paedophile activity during an investigation into other suspects.

It alerted the UK authorities in "late 2014," according to the National Crime Agency.

The NCA arrested him when he flew into Gatwick Airport in December 2014. Investigators found more than 20,000 indecent images on his computer and went on to uncover much more.

Huckle spent only a few days on bail before he was re-arrested, messaging his best friend from prison: "Life as I know it is over. This arrest has broken so many hearts."

Initially, Huckle denied everything and prosecutors planned three separate trials at the Old Bailey because they felt one jury could not cope with viewing Huckle's videos and photographs of abuse.

Eventually he was persuaded to plead guilty to most of the charges he faced, more than half of which carry a maximum life sentence.

The NCA said that before it arrested Huckle it sent staff to Malaysia to alert the authorities to what he had done.

But it appears the agency did not reveal any of the details of his crimes.

Mariza Abdulkadir, of the charity Protect and Save the Children, was invited to help the NCA explain to community leaders what Huckle had done.

I showed her the list of his crimes for the first time.

She said: "You've got a very extensive list here - very, very,  very detailed.

"We were actually approached by the British police back in December 2014.

"They didn't give us much information so we went in there with nothing - so we approached the communities as an NGO, doing prevention work on child sexual abuse and working with communities and giving them safety workshops and talks to parents and the community leaders.

"Absolutely no information was given to them at all."

The Malaysian government minister responsible for child protection said she was told nothing about Huckle's crimes against its children.

Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun, Deputy Minister for Women, Family and Community Development, told Sky News: "As of this moment we don’t know anything about this case.

"The prosecution is happening in England and victims are unknown and so we would of course like to help. That is our duty.

"The victims here , especially if they are Malaysians, we will help. Counselling, for a start, but at the moment we don’t know who they are.

"It's horrible, really horrible. It's not something to be tolerated, and we will do anything to protect our children if we know about it."

Huckle's parents threw him out when they learned of his crimes, selling the family home and disappearing within months of his arrest.

His sister-in-law told Sky: "None of his family will speak about him. None of us ever want to see Richard again."

The judge told Huckle at an early court hearing that his crimes were "of the utmost gravity" and he should expect to be jailed for life.

Huckle is thought to be only the third British man convicted under a recent law that allows the UK prosecution of "sex tourists".

The sentencing is expected to last until Friday. Source: Skynews

Opinion: This is pure evil. He doesn't deserve to walk free the rest of his life. He has damaged many innocent souls. No punishment would be enough for his crimes.

Saraki’s Case Adjourned Indefinitely.

The Code of Conduct Tribunal on Wednesday adjourned the trial of Senate President, Bukola Saraki, indefinitely, after a star witness for the prosecution, Michael Wetkas, failed to show up.

Saraki’s trial was on May 25 adjourned till today, for the cross-examination of the witness, Michael Wetkas, to continue.

The tribunal chairman, Danladi Umar, said the adjournment was to give the court time to hear other cases.

The prosecution and defence teams also said the break would allow them prepare their cases better. Source: PM News.

Opinion: Welcome to Nigerian judiciary.  Adjourning a criminal cases indefinitely does not speak well of the judiciary. Justice delayed, is justice denied. Delay is also dangerous. Anything can happen in Nigeria.

Contradicting The Common Sense Senator, Ben Bruce.

C.V.Akuta Media cannot independently confirm the story below.

Re: Senator Ben Murray-Bruce:

"I was prevented from shaking hands with President Muhammadu Buhari while another Senator was allowed to shake Buhari's hand at the villa."

Senator Sola Adeyeye provides insight on what really transpired.

"I (Senator Sola Adeyeye) was at the dinner. I sat in the front row along with other Principal Officers of the National Assembly. I had a vantage view of what transpired. I am disappointed by this comment from a respected colleague. I have on two occasions provided robust defense of Senator Ben Murray-Bruce. Not this time!

It was Senator Dino Melaye who first went to greet those seated at the President's table, including President Buhari. He was well greeted. No one in the senate has criticized President Buhari more than Sen Melaye.

But as others rose to do what Dino had done, the scene got clumsy and indecorous because people were approaching the President's table from different directions.

I sat between Sen Olujimi and Sen Bwacha. The three of us felt embarrassed by what was clearly a breach of dinner protocol. At that level, if dinner was served or being served, good etiquette demanded that the President's table should not be approached. One should wait until people had finished eating. No senator in the USA would breach such elementary protocol.

We (on my table) predicted in whispers that colleagues would soon be barred from approaching the President's table and it happened. The first person to be turned back was Senator Barnabas Gemade who was visibly embarrassed. He belongs to the APC; he is not a known critic of the President.

When I noticed that most people had finished their food, I approached the table and offered my pleasantries. Others followed suit. No one was turned back."

~ Senator Sola Adeyeye.

Reactions:

- Senator Ben Murray-Bruce was mischievous and clever by half. He didn't state in his update on Facebook and Twitter that the incident took place during a presidential dinner hosted for Senators.

- Senator Ben Murray-Bruce made it seemed as if he went to the President's office and he was barred from seeing Mr President while another Senator was given unfettered access.

- Senator Dino Melaye clearly breached protocol. You can remove a Pig from the gutter, but you can never remove the gutter from the Pig. Who walks to the President's table to shake hands with him during state function? Only bushmen like Dino and Bruce Lee.

I hope all those who have taken to Twitter and Facebook to lash at President Muhammadu Buhari because of what Senator Ben Murray-Bruce made you believe, will be bold enough to shamefully retract your vile and bullous vituperation now that it has been established that President Muhammadu Buhari has nothing to do with the DSS preventing the #Commonsense Tweetnator from walking to the President's table to shake his hands.

House of Mis/Representatives Amends CCB,CCT Act.

The House of Representatives on Tuesday made several amendments to the Act setting up the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

The Senate had previously stepped down the consideration of the bill due to public outcry that followed the move.

The amendments were contained in the report of a bill for an Act to amend the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act, 2004 that was considered and adopted on Tuesday by the Committee of the Whole House.

Paragraph (e) was added to Sections 3 of the Act to read: “Upon complaint(s) of any breach or where it appears to the Bureau that there is a breach of the provision or this Act, the person concerned shall be given particulars of such non compliance or breaches to explain before any reference to the tribunal.”

Accordingly, the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) would no longer have powers to immediately refer a matter to the CCT, unlike what currently subsist.

Section 1 (4) was deleted and replaced with “The Chairman and members shall serve for a term of five years subject to renewal for one further term only.”

Section 4 (2) was also amended to substitute the word “President” with “the National Assembly” as the one to appoint members of staff of the Bureau and exercise disciplinary control over them.

However, the House would still require the concurrence of the Senate that had previously stepped similar bill down before it could be forwarded to the President for assent. Source: The Nation.

Opinion: The House of Representatives wants to water down the provisions of the Code of Conduct Bureau. Rather than make strong laws to fight corruption, the House of Mis/representatives are watering down the existing law. That is Nigeria for you.

Management and Staffs of Brand Buhari.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on the Media, Mr. Femi Adesina, Wednesday, identified the reticence and thriftiness of President Muhammadu Buhari, as some of the challenges that has affected the management of the president by his media team.

Femi Adesina Speaking at the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations‎, NIPR, Abuja Chapter’s Monthly Meeting in Abuja, Adesina lamented that another challenge in managing the ‘Buhari Brand’ was the fact that a large number of people who did not vote for Buhari in the last election are still in the pre-election mode and had refused to accept the reality that the election had been won and lost.

He explained that the President’s forthrightness was one of the reasons why he did not challenge David Cameron’s assertion that Nigeria’s is ‘fantastically corrupt’, while he noted that despite the fact that a large number of Nigerians are not corrupt, the volume of corruption in the country is high.

He, however, explained that though the reticence of the President is a major challenge in managing him, it had made the media team ingenious in the management of the President. He identified other characteristics of ‘Brand Buhari’ to include the President’s toughness, toughness, discipline, integrity, transparency, incorruptibility and modesty. He said some of the strategies adopted by Buhari’s media team included informing the public consistently on the ideals and programmes of the President, expanding information; educating the public about Brand Buhari and also defending the brand. Source: www.vanguardngr.com

Opinion: Sure Femi Adesina is not trying to exonerate himself and his team.Despite the reasons above, the PR Team appears not to be doing a good work. On a particular interview monitored on Channels TV about the drop in electricity supply, owning to pipeline lines vandalism, Femi Adesina,  asked Nigerians to go and hold militants responsible (paraphrazed). Femi should not shift the blames to Buhari, but himself and his team deserves blame too.
