Petroleum Trust Fund Vs SURE-P.

Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF): was established by Decree 1 of 1995, by General Abacha as a result of complaints following the increase on petroleum prices then. The idea was to use the proceeds from the fuel price increase for the benefit of Nigerians. Gen Abacha begged Buhari to become the Chairman. PTF became a success story and a household name. It has been largely claimed that PTF did more (roads, infrastructure etc), in three years than what PDP did in 12 years.

Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P):In January 2012, the government of President Goodluck Jonathan announced the removal of petroleum subsidy. On February 13, 2012 President Goodluck Jonathan announced the establishment of SURE-P, specifically to use the fuel subsidy savings to deliver service with integrity to the Nigerians. Its first Chairman was Dr. Christopher Kolade, who has since resigned. He said President Goodluck Jonathan was not a good leader.

PTF’s annual accounts were audited yearly and made public by external auditors Messrs KPMG. Obasanjo probed PTF but found nothing. Not sure if SURE-P’s accounts have been audited by external auditors, talk less of making it public. Feel free to use the Freedom of Information Act, to request the audited accounts of PTF from KPMG. Also try SURE-P with such request.

Please could SURE-P present their scorecard (projects executed, contract costs, total revenue derived, external audited accounts etc) to Nigerians, so people can compare and contrast with PTF.

Human Rights Records under Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan.

Buhari’s military government jailed two (2) journalists using decree 4, and their offence was that, they published the list of Nigeria’s ambassadorial postings before it was officially released by the government. Thus, Buhari’s military government then considered it a breach of State security. If as citizen you breach a country’s state security, that country will hunt you down, example is America. The United States has been fighting for the extradition to USA of the Wikileaks publisher and Edward Snowden (An American citizen granted asylum in Russia), for leaking American State secrets. Buhari also imprisoned corrupt politicians with lengthy sentences, and lastly passed retroactive laws, especially the one used to try and kill three convicted drug pushers.

Many people have condemned the retroactive decree/law, but what they failed to understand is that, many other countries and governments have also used retroactive laws. The United Nations Tribunals at Nuremberg and Tokyo (Japan) that tried perpetrators of World War 2 atrocities, were based on retroactive laws. In USA, the Adams Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006, has been applied to those whose crimes were committed before the law was enacted. About the time of Buhari’s military government or slightly after, the Western countries were injecting deadly/killer substances to Nigerians caught trafficking drugs. Every one given this injection died. A popular musician from Imo State and a popular boutique owner at Enugu were rumoured to have been given this deadly injection. Both men died. While Western countries didn’t have death sentence as official penalty for drug offences, they were indirectly killing Nigerian drug offenders, through these injections.

Under President Goodluck Jonathan, over 13,000 Nigerians have been killed by Boko Haram, and over half a million Nigerians displaced. Multi billion naira properties and investments, belonging to Igbos destroyed by Boko Haram. Let’s remember that the primary purpose of every government is to provide security, which is also part of our fundamental human rights. On this, his government has failed Nigerians.

His current Interior Minister (Abba Moro), conducted a sham employment examination, in the process over thirty (30) Nigerians died in the stampede from the examination centres. Applicants bought application forms for N1,000 each. Selling application forms is against labour laws. Why GEJ left this minister in his cabinet is beyond imagination.

The government of President Goodluck Jonathan gave a Posthumous award to Late Gen Sani Abacha. Goodluck Jonathan held a closed door meeting with the son of General Abacha. Recall, that same Abacha’s son was mentioned as one of those who tortured some suspected coup plotters (Oladipo Diya’s coup). Abacha’s government killed many Nigerians, including Mr. President’s kinsmen (Ken Saro Wiwa etc). Please, from the above, judge whose government has the worst human rights records.

Igbos Are Better Voting Buhari.

Please find below, the reasons, why Igbos are better voting Buhari.

Political Equation of Nigeria.

Politics is a game of numbers, that involves bargaining, strategic thinking, negotiations, re-positioning etc. It involves give and take, scratch my back, I scratch your back. There are no permanent enemies or friends in politics, rather permanent interest. Also there are little or no room for sentiments in politics. Bayelsa State (State of origin of our President) has only 590,679 registered voters. The entire South South region has a total of 9,486,783 registered voters. Other regions are as follows, North Central, 11,466,596, North East, 10,445,510, North West, 18,616,499, South East, 7,178,185, and South West, 13,188,854. Supporting President Goodluck, means Igbos would expect same support from Bayelsa and South South region, when an Igbo persons wants to seek the office of the President of Nigeria. Assuming the entire South South gives such a person 100% votes, that would not be sufficient to win the Presidential election. But the fact remains that a non indigene cannot secure 100% votes from South South. Besides, no winner has ever secured 100% votes. Therefore, the political mathematics dictates that Igbos support Buhari/North, in return for Northern support, when it’s the turn of Igbos. Per adventure if President Jonathan wins in 2015, by 2019, PDP can never zone the Presidency to South East. Its going North.

South East Economic Interests/Investments.

The Igbos have more investments and businesses in the North, much more than in Bayelsa State and the entire South South region. There are only 6 states in the South South region, while there are 19 states in the North, that is North West, North East and North Central. Therefore, millions of Igbo stand to make more money through their businesses in the North than South South. This becomes more obvious, when there are no federal government support schemes for the survival of Igbo business people all over Nigeria. Igbos survive on self help. Compare it with what the same federal government budgeted for Niger Delta militants in 2014 budget. (A)Stipends and Allowances to 30,000 Niger Delta Militants under the Presidential Amnesty Programme: N23.6 Billion (twenty three billion, six hundred million Naira). (B)Reintegration of Transformed Ex Militants: N35.4 Billion (Thirty Five Billion, Four Hundred Million Naira).

Historical Antecedents.

During the First Republic, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe’s party (NCNC) went into alliance with the Northern People’s Congress (NPC). During the Second Republic, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe’s party, Nigerian Peoples’ Party (NPP), broke away from Waziri Ibrahim’s party, Great Nigerian Peoples’ Party. Zik’s party (NPP) won a Governorship election in Plateau State, thru Chief Solomon Lar. This was the only state outside South East, that his party (NPP) won a Governorship election. Chief Alex Ekwueme was the Vice President under President Shagari. Chinua Achebe, was the Vice Presidential Candidate/running mate to the Late Aminu Kano, under Peoples’ Redemption Party (PRP). Ikemba Nnewi, contested Senatorial election and won under National Party of Nigeria (NPN).

Ex Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida, appointed Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe, as his second in command/deputy. General Sani Abacha, fully sponsored Ikemba’s wedding with his wife (Bianca). General Buhari, chose Okadigbo and Umezoke respectively in 2003 and 2007 as running mates. Ojukwu’s running mate under APGA was Sani Ibrahim Bayero (a brother of the late Emir of Kano). Ex Vice President, Atiku Abubakar chose Senate Ben Obi as running mate in 2007. Igbos voted massively for Yar Adua, against their own leader (Ikemba Nnewi) in 2007.

Biafran War.

No political story of Igbos, would be complete, without reference to the civil war. The writer does not intend to open old wounds neither will he, exonerate any tribe that fought against the Igbos. Also, this is in response to series of emails/questions that, the Northerners caused Igbos hardship thru the war etc. The major reason for the collapse of Biafra, was not the Hausas only, but principally the economic blockade, starvation policy and change of currency, all initiated by Awolowo and the sabotage from the Ijaws. To make matters worse, Awolowo as then finance minister, gave every Igbo man £20 pounds, irrespective of any amount you had then, plus the abandoned properties, seized by old Rivers State indigenes.

Why President GEJ Would Lose South East Votes.

1.Anambra State Governor, Obaino condemns President Goodluck Jonathan. He said, “Mr President has failed Ndi Igbo completely by not doing enough for us. As a matter of fact, things are seriously not right. We can’t continue attacking people who are saying the truth”

2.Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha said, Everybody admitted that Imo gave President Jonathan 1.3 million votes, three years after, we have nothing to show for it. Does it mean that Imo is good for is to cast votes.

3. Folks, on the 22/02/14, The Obi of Onitsha His Royal Majesty, Igwe Alfred Achebe, told President Goodluck Jonathan, that he has not fulfilled his 2011 campaign promises.

4. Ohanaeze Ndigbo(Apex Igbo Socio-Cultural Group) issued a statement, saying they have not endorsed Goodluck Jonathan, for 2015 election.

5. Dr Dozie Ikedife, former President General of Ohanaeze, said that President Goodluck Jonathan has failed Igbos.

6. Under President Goodluck Jonathan’s PDP Government, look at the position of Igbos below

S/n
Position
Geo Political Zone
1.
President.
South South.
2.
Vice President.
North West.
3.
Senate President.
North Central.
4.
Speaker House of Reps.
North West.
5.
Deputy Senate President.
South East (No constitutional powers).
6.
Deputy Speaker.
South East (No constitutional powers).
7.
Secretary to Fed Govt.
South East(No constitutional powers).

Recall that in 1993, MKO Abiola, was asked the position, he would give to Igbos, and He said, Secretary to the Federal Government. Hell broke loose. Ojukwu described it as tea making position and many Igbos rejected it then. Now, that’s what President Goodluck and PDP gave to Igbos. The miracle of “I had no shoes” might not work this time in the South East.

Former Aviation Minister, Oduah, picks Anambra PDP Senatorial Ticket. Premium Times.

Comment:Hold on, thought she was accused of corruption. Illegal purchase of bullet proof cars. Now, PDP has given her ticket to contest as Senator. PDP does not care about its image. Sorry, yours truly has forgotten that, there is no image to care about. Don’t be surprised, she might win.

Ex-Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, in secret visit to arms-ladden Chad bound plane detained in Nigeria. Premium Times.

Comment:Police had “intelligence that hoodlums planned to attack National Assembly, resulting in lawmakers jumping gate” wondering why they don’t have intelligence on this man.

Governors,  Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom), Jonah Jang (Plateau), Theodore Orji (Abia), and Muazu Babangida Aliyu (Niger) given PDP Senatorial tickets. The WillNigeria.

Comment:Senate is a retirement home for Ex Governors, regardless of those who performed badly. By the way, does the Senate on its own, perform/function to the expectations of Nigerians, the answer is No. Please ask them, how many laws they passed between 2011 to present.

Nigerian entertainers , Kate Henshaw and 9ice lose big in party primaries. Sahara Reporters.

Comment:Failure is not bad. It can be turned around to success. No harm in trial. But hold on, they can behave like politicians and decamp to another party and justify that with excuses. After all, most politicians are like prostitutes, jumping from one party to another.

Tension as Boko Haram deploys 52 female bombers in Maidugiri. The WillNigeria.

Comment:Rumours have it that men suicide bombers are promised, reward of seven (7) or more virgins in “heaven”. Wondering what the “promised rewards” for these women, would be in “heaven. May be seven virgin men too. If it’s in the affirmative, that means, they are ready to die, in order to become polyandrous in “heaven”.

Nigerian Government cancels U.S. military training agreement, as relations between both nations worsen.  Sahara Reporters.

Comment:May be Nigerian Government is taking retaliatory actions against the U.S., for refusing to sell arms to Nigeria, for less crude oil purchases, accusations that Nigerian government is corrupt etc. Well, the U.S. has nothing to lose, but Nigeria has a lot to lose. However, Nigeria government can go it alone, if it’s sincere to itself and her citizens. Cuba survived massive/aggressive U.S. sanctions and went ahead to export over 30,000 medical doctors to developing nations. All Nigeria needs are to honestly look inward. Biafra lasted three (3) years, largely because they manufactured most of their arms and refined crude oil locally.

2015: Tread softly with your statements, Clark warns Amaechi, Shema, others. Vanguard Online News.

Comment:Freedom of speech is part of our fundamental human rights. Rather than warn and threaten others for their speeches, why not approach the courts, but again these men have immunity from prosecution. This is one of the shortfalls of our constitution.

President Jonathan behind Boko Haram attacks, no culprit ever prosecuted. Sultan. Newsrescue.

Comment:It’s surprising that there are little or no convictions on Boko Haram. The President seems not to be bothered about it. Most of the President’s comments on Boko Haram are self contradictory. Perhaps, that is why the National Assembly, didn’t approve his request to extend emergency rules, because it’s not working.
